Rangers Bounce Back with Win over Twins
6/22/2018by Rangers Media

After dropping their first game of the season on Wednesday night, the Rangers were hungry to get back in the win column against their familiar foes from Mississauga. Final score was 10-3 in favour of Etobicoke.

LH Brad Crone took the ball for the Rangers and got off to a slow start in the first inning, hitting the first two batters and having them score on two RBI singles. The Rangers cut the early lead in half in the bottom as SS Alex Thrower reached on a base hit off of RH Tomas Rincon and later scored from third on a passed ball. That was all Crone needed to reset as he kept the Twins off the board for the next three innings, walking one batter and striking out two. In the bottom of the 2nd the Rangers took the lead, as singles from C Kyle Bowers and 1B Brendan O'Flynn followed by a catcher interference with CF Adam Raithby at the plate loaded the bases for Thrower. Thrower cashed one in on a sharply hit groundball to the second baseman who just took the out at first base. 2B Mark Capone followed with a 2 RBI single to stretch the lead to 4-2.

Both pitchers setlled in after that until the Rangers got to Rincon in bottom 4. Raithby reached on an infield single, Thrower walked, and Capone was hit by a pitch to load the bases with none out. LH Byrnes came on to replace Rincon and two of the three inherited runners scored on some Ranger small ball. Etobicoke would add another run in the 5th, 7th, and two more in the 8th.

RH Tyler Whealy relieved Crone with two perfect innings including two strikeouts to earn the win, and RH Kyle Breitner recorded a 9 out save striking out three Twins while giving up just one hit, three walks, and one unearned run.

The Rangers potent attack outhit the Twins 18-5, led by Bowers 4-5, Thrower 3-4, Raithby 2-3, O'Flynn 2-4, Murphy 2-5 and Capone 2-5. RBIs came from Capone with 3, Iafrate with 2, Thrower and O'Flynn with 1 each.
