Wining Streak Comes to an End in Milton
6/20/2018by Rangers Media

The Senior Rangers were on an impressive roll having gone 14-0 to begin the 2018 regular season, and 20-0 dating back to August of 2017. However that was of no consequence to Milton as the Red Sox won 7-4 at home on the back of an outstanding 156-pitch complete game win by RH Chris Cloes.

The Rangers lineup struck first in this one as CF Alex Thrower led off with a single, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by the 2-hitter RF Adam Raithby off of Cloes. Raithby was stranded at 3B. RH Andrew Hyde started the game for the Rangers and ran into a tough Red Sox lineup as they took the lead on one swing by 3B Kevin Greer, a two-run shot over the wall in left field. They'd add another unearned on a groundball error with two outs. Hyde pitched out of the jam by picking up a strikeout to strand the bases loaded.

In the top half of the 2nd, the Rangers answered back with a homerun of their own, C Zach Prisciak's first in senior baseball over the left field wall. They'd strand two runners in scoring position as Cloes minimized the damage. In the bottom half, Hyde held the Sox off the board.

The Rangers tied it up in the top of the 3rd as DH AJ Iafrate took the first pitch deep over the left centre field wall to tie the game at 3. Milton re-took the lead in the bottom half as a two-out infield single allowed the runner to score from 3B. The see-saw battle continued as Rangers scored the 4th straight inning as Thrower's sac fly scored 3B Mike Asta.

Again, the Ranger pitching staff couldn't hold off the Sox offense as they strung together two bloop singles off of Hyde to end his day and bring on RH Adam McBride. The pitching change led to more of the same as McBride gave up another bloop single this time to score one run, but followed by inducing a double play although allowing another run for Milton to take a the lead. DH Matt Lahn followed with an RBI doule to dead CF to extend the lead to 6-4.

The Ranger lineup wasn't able to push anything more across as Cloes settled in, continuing to change speeds and keep the potent Rangers off balance. Milton would add one more insurance run in the 5th, the lone run McBride would surrender as no one scored in the 6th. RH Kyle Angelow came on to pitch the 7th, striking out the side, and followed with a scoreless 8th to hold the deficit.

The Rangers made things interesting in the 9th as with two outs Ferracuti representing the tying run at the plate, but Cloes shut the door.

The Sox outhit the Rangers in this one 16-12. Rangers were led by Asta 3-4 with a double and a run,  Thrower and Raithby both with two hits. Iafrate and Prisciak with solo home runs.
