Cards Edged by Etobicoke at Home

After a 1-2 finish on the weekend in Brampton, the Cards looked to try and transfer some of the success the found as they hosted the Etobicoke Rangers in league play. The Erindale club battled hard but alas dropped a tight 5-4 game to the league leading Rangers.

 

Erindale got on the board first in this one as they put up single runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The lead was short lived as Etobicoke put up a pair of runs in the 5th inning to tie the game up 2-2. The Cardinals took the lead back in the home half of the 6th inning as they put up a pair of runs to take a 4-2 lead to the late innings of this one.

 

The Rangers kept battling though as they put up a pair of runs in the 7th inning and scored another run in the 8th inning to take a 5-4 lead. Erindale was able to muster a couple of rallies but Mike Asta and Tyler Whealy held the Erindale bats at bay in taking thos one down 5-4.

 

Pip Murray-Smith led the Redbirds in this one going 3-for-5 at the dish with a double, a walk, a pair of runs and an RBI. Chris Novia was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Mike Caleb and Ricardo Marin each had a hit while Aaron Palmer had an RBI on a based loaded walk. Tyler Randa was 2-for-3 with a walk and a pair of runs to lead the Etobicoke attack.

 

With the loss, the Cardinals now drop to 0-5 on the year and sit in last spot in the COBA Major Baseball League while the Etobicoke Rangers move to 6-1 on the year and top spot in the loop. Erindale now gets a week off and will be back in action looking fo rtheir first league win as they will host the Niagara Metros on Monday, June 10th. Game time is slated for 7:30pm at Erindale Cardinal Field and rookie Evan Harrison will draw the starting assingment.
