Cards Edged by the A's in Oakville

The Erindale Cardinals traveled to Oakville last night for their first meeting of the year against the A's. The Oakville pitching staff kept the Cardinals bats at bay as they could only muster five hits in a 2-1 loss in Oakville. Scoring was at a premium in this one, with Erindale opening the scoring in the 4th inning taking a 1-0 lead. The A's would answer back in the home half of the 5th inning as they scored a pair of runs. That would be it for the scoring as the pitchers took over from there leading to the 2-1 final.

Erindale was led at the plate by Dylan Johnson who was 1-for-2 with a walk and the only Erindale RBI. Chris Novia was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk while Alex Perez was 1-for-2. Jay Woodford was 1-for-4 with an HBP while Aneil Birsa was 1-for-2.

Brendan Fox drew the start for the Cards and was the hard luck loser on this night. He went five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while walking three batters. Sebastian Santos, Dan Nauth and Dan Estey all threw one inning in relief of Fox. Each allowed only one hit while Santos collected three strikeouts and Estey fanned one.

With the loss, Erindale now drops to 1-6 on the season and reamin in 4th spot in the Andrews Division. The Crds will now get the weekend off but will be right back to work on Monday when they will host these same Oakville A's in the back end of a home-in-home. Game time is slated for 7:30pm and Kevin Lucas will get the start on the mound.
