The Erindale Cardinals had the league leaders on the ropes last night but one last haymaker was enough as the Rangers came from 3-1 down after six innings to stun the Erindale club by a final score of 5-3.
Erindale opened the scoring in this one as they got single runs in both the 1st and 4th innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Rangers would cut that lead in half in the home half of the 5th inning as they put up a run but the Cardinals took the wind off of the sails, or so they thought, scoring another run in the 7th inning take reclaim their 2-run lead at 3-1.
The wheels fell off for the Cards in the home half of the 7th inning as Etobicoek used four hits, three walks and a hit batter to plate four runs and take a 5-3 lead. Erindale was never able to recover as the tandem of Tyler Whealy (Win) and Matt Stoddart (Save) shut the door the rest of the way giving the Rangers a 5-3 victory.
Brandonn Cole led the way for the Cards as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles as well as a rund scored and a stolen base. Pip Murray-Smith 1-for-3 with a pair of walks, a run and an RBI as well as a stolen base. Greg Dodwell an Aaron Palmer each had a hit and an RBI. Dennis Dei Baning was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a pair of RBI.
Dan Estey drew the start for the Redbirds on the hill. He went the first five innings and ended up with a no decision. Estey allowed only run run on three hits while walking two and striking two as well. Mark Taplin threw a clean 6th inning not even allowing a baseb runner.
Zach Bayfield was touched up in the 7th inning as he allowed four run on three hits in his inning of work. He walked three batters, hit one batter while striking out three. Adam Forsey threw the 8th inning walking a pair while collecting two strikeouts as well.
With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 2-7 on the season and remain in the basement of the Andrews Division. It will be a short rest for Erindale as they will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon as they will travel to Milton for a twinbill with the Red Sox. First game is slated for 10:00am with the second game starting 25 minutes after the completion of the first game. Evan Harrison and Andrew Mullin are the expected starters for Erindale on the bump.
