The Mississauga SW Twins won a pair of league contests this week. Their performance as a team garnered them Team of the Week honors from the league.
On Tuesday, the Twins hosted the Burlington Brants at Clarkson Park. The Brants got on the board first in this one as they plated a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning. Mississauga went to work after that though as they cut the lead in half after an inning and then added 4-run innings in both the 4th and 6th innings to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
The Twins continued to take on more runs as they added another two runs in the 7th inning and a single run in the 8th inning end the game at 12-2. The game ended after eight innings due to the league mercy rule.
Jaykob Turner led the 13-hit attack for Mississauga SW as he went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a walk, two runs and four RBI. Both Ian Campbell and Troy Black were 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI while Chris Piccini was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI. Tim Sogan led the Brants going 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Jordan Petruska drew the starting assignment for the Twins and was dominant as he picked up the win. He threw seven innings allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits. He walked one batter while striking out two. Stephen Nahrabeki threw a scoreless 8th inning allowing a pair of hits. Mike Grilli, the first of three Burlington hurlers, took the loss.
On Thursday, the Twins hit the road down the QEW for a date with the Niagara Metros at George Taylor Field. Mississauga got rolling early in this one as they plated a run in the 2nd inning followed by two runs in the 3rd inning for a quick 3-0 lead.
They kept pouring it on in the middle innings as they added three more runs in the 5th inning and four more in the 6th inning for a 10-0 lead. Niagara added a run in the home half of the 7th inning to get on board but Mississauga added three more runs in the 9th inning to take the game by a score of 13-1.
Mike Cardinale was the big stick for the Twins in this one going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three runs and five RBI. Nahrabeki was 3-for-5 with a triple, a run and an RBI while John Broll was 2-for-6 with a double and a run. Matt Piccini was 1-for-4 with a run scored while Alex Thrower was 1-for-6 with a pair of runs. Dave Davidson led Niagara going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base.
Tomas Rincon drew the start on the hill for Mississauga SW and was dominant again against the Metros as he threw seen strong innings to collect the win. He allowed one run (unearned) on five hits while walking one and striking out eight. Nahrabeki closed out the last two innings allowing nothing across the board.
