COBA Major League Week IX Recap feat Burlington Brants

The Burlington Brants had a pair of games this week in COBA Major League action and when the dust settled they ended up with a split in the two games. 

 

On Monday, the Brants made the trek to Greg Cranker Field and a date with the Erindale Cardinals. Burlington got out of the gates quickly as they scored a run in each og the forst three innings to take a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals answered back in the bottom half of the third in with a pair of runs to cut the lead to 3-2. 

 

The pitchers took over from there for the next few innings as Cam Ryerson for Burlington and Kevin Lucas for Erindale were able to both throw up goose eggs for the next two innings. The Brants finally broke through in the 8th inning and plated a pair of insurance runs and Trevor Woodjetts shut the door in the ninth as Burlington took this game 5-2.

 

Mike Grilli led the way for the Brants at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Max Von Gemmingen was 2-for-5 with a double, a run and a stolen base while Kyle Arbuthnott was 2-for-4 with a run. Evan Krychowski and Brock Marshall were both 1-for-4 with a double with Marshall collecting an RBI while Darryl Pierce was 1-for-4 with an RBI. 

 

Phile Hache was 1-for-3 with a run scored while Corrie Morrison was didnt register a hit but still plated a pair of runs and added a stolen base. Pip Murray-Smith led the Erindale charge going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base. John Dewolfe was 1-for-2 with a double, an HBP, a run, an RBI and a stoen base while Aaron Palmer was 1-for-4.

 

Cam Ryerson started for the Brants on the hill and was great as he tossed five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in collecting the win. He walked one batter while striking out four. Trevor Woodjetts tossed the last four inning of the games collecting the save. He allowed no runs on just four hits. He walked no one and struck out four. 

 

Wednesday, the Brants welcomed the Etobicoke Rangers to Nelson Park for a home tilt between the top two teams in the loop. DIfferent tune in the game for Burlington as the Rangers came out hot plating four runs in the first inning followed by three more in the third inning for a quick 7-0 lead. Etobicoke added single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to build that lead to 9-0.

 

The Brants finally answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Etobicoke lead to 9-3. The Rangers would answer right back though with two in their half of the sixth inning with Burlington adding one in the home after for an 11-4 score after six innings. Etobicoke would add three runs in the lare innings to take this one by a socre of 14-4

 

Max Von Gemmingen had another nice game in this one going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run, and RBI and a stolen base. Bill Reaume was 1-for-4 with a double while MIke Grilli was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Cole Lewis and Evan Krychowski were both 1-for-4 with Lewis collecting an RBI and Krychowki scored a run. 

 

Corrie Morrison was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Brock Marshall wrapped up the Brants offense going 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Veteran Mark Capone led the way for the Rangers going 3-for-3 with a double, a pair of walks, three runs, an RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Hunter Bisser was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, four runs and three RBI while Michael Ferracuti was 2-for-5 with a double, a pair of runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases. 

 

Tyler Coakle started and took the loss for Burlington. He tossed one inning allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits. He walked a pair of Etobicoke batters and struck out one. Jordan Rienzo followed hinm to the hill throwing six innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits. He walked four and struck out four. Mike Grilli tossed the last inning allowing a pair of runs (both earned) on one hit. He walked three and struck out two.
