The Brampton Royals had a pair of games this past week in COBA Major League regular season action. The Royals earned a split in their two games they kept their record at .500 for the season.
On Thursday night, the Royals hosted the Burlington Brants at Dave Dash Field in the Flower City. Each tewam opened this game by scoring a run in the opening frame to get the offense going. The Brant then added single runs in the second and third innings to take a 3-1 lead. The lead was short lived though as Brampton answered back with two runs in the home half of the third to tie the game at three.
Burlington would jump back in front with a run in the fourth inning but the Royals would put this one out of reach with three runs in the fifth inning followed by five more in the sixth inning for an 11-4 lead. Burlington would cut the lead to 11-6 with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning but a five run outburst by the Royals in the bottom half would bring this game to a halt due to the league mercy with the score 16-6 for Brampton.
Joe Ferreira led the way for Brampton at the dish going 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs. Sam Nick Jones was 2-for-4 with a walk, a pair of runs and an RBI while Aidan Murphy 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple, two runs and an RBI. Rookie Sam Lebel was 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs, two runs and three RBIs while Keegan Murphy was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run and a pair of RBIs.
Victor Speciale, Yannick Rickli (2 RBI), and Logan Janes all had a double in the game while Patrick Pinlac, Ralph Lahey, and Marco DiRoma (RBI) all had a single. Jayden Jamison had a pair of RBIs as well. Cole Lewis led the Burlington offense going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while Kyle Arbuthnott was 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
On the hill, Cameron Hibbs drew the start for Brampton and went four innings allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits. He walked no one and had one strikeout in picking up a no decision. Arman Lakhani followed him to the mound and grabbed the win with three scoreless innings of relief on just two hits. He walked a pair of batters and struck out one. RJ Page tossed the last inning allowing a pair of unearned runs on two hits with a walk. Evan Krychowski started and took the loss for the Brants allowing nine runs (all earned) on 11 hits in five innings of work.
On Friday, the Royals made the trek to The 6 and a matchup with the Etobicoke Rangers at Connorvale Park. It would be a rough night at the yard for Brampton as they could only manage four hits and were held scoreless. The Rangers put up a single run in the bottom of the first followed by three in the third and four more in the fourth. They would get single runs in both the sixth and seventh inning as Etobicoke would take this game by a score of 10-0 via the league mercy rule.
Vic Speciale had a double to lead the Royals while Nick Jones, Keegan Murphy and Dawson Fascia each had singles for the other hits. Jaykob Turner led the way for Etobicoke going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs and four RBIs. Dan Franceschetti was 2-for-4 with a run scored while Ryan Panas was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI.
On the mound, Alex Emerson started and took the loss Brampton. In five innings of work, he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits. He walked three batters while striking out two. Aidan Murphy threw the next 1 2/3 innings allowing two runs (both earned) on one hit. He walked two and struck out two. Andrew Hyde earned the win going six scoreless innings allowing only three hits. He walked none and struck out five. Xavier Whittle had a scoreless seventh inning allwoing two hits and struck out one Brampton batter.
