The Milton Red Sox had a solid week in COBA Major Baseball League action as they went undefeated in three games winning a pair of games while tying their 3rd game.
Their week started out on the road as they paid a visit to Nelson Park for a date with the Burlington Brants. Bot teams were a little quiet out of the gates as both teams were scoreless after two innings. The Brants would open the scoring in the 3rd inning pushing a run across for a 1-0 lead. They would add to that lead in the 5th tallying another run for a 2-0 lead after five innings.
The Red Sox bats woke up in a big way though in the 6th inning as they plated 11 runs to take a commanding 11-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning. The Brants would add single runs in both the 7th and 8th innings to cut that lead to 11-4 but Milton would cash one more run in in the 9th inning to take this game by a score of 12-4 over Burlington.
Eric Beharri led the offensive push for Milton going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Matt Fusco also went 3-for-5 with a walk, two runs and an RBI while Liam Buckley was 2-for-2 with a walk and a pair of runs. COBA Major Player of the Week Aaron Nash was 2-for-6 with two triples, two runs and three RBIs while Sean Alp was also 2-for-6 with two runs scored.
Nicholas Feren was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a pair of RBIs while MacKenzie Storey was 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Mike MacKillop was 1-for-2 with an RBI while Luke Crowley was 1-for-5 with a walk and an RBI. Brandon Job wrapped up the Red Sox offense going 1-for-2. Michael Westlake was 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs while Max Von Gemmigen was 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead the Brants offense at the plate.
On the mound, COBA Major Pitcher of the Week Chris Cloes tossed six innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits to pick up the win. He walked two batters while striking out four. Kyle Clark tossed the last three innings also allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits earning the save. He walked no one while striking out four as well. Jordan Rienzo took the loss for Burlington throwing 1/3 of an inning allowing six runs on three hits and three walks.
The Milton crew was off until Saturday when they hosted the Brampton Royals at the Milton Sports Complex for a double header. The Red Sox got on the board early in this one putting up a run in the home half of the first inning. The Royals plated a pair in the 2nd inning for a 2-1 lead. The lead was short lived as Milton scored three runs in the home half of the 2nd inning and added a run in the 3rd inning to take a 5-2 lead.
The 4th inning was scoreless for both teams but in the 5th inning Brampton would break out for five runs and reclaim the lead 7-5. The Red Sox would add a run in the home half of the 5th inning to cut the lead to 7-6. They would ad other run in the 6th inning to tie the game up 7-7. After a scoreless 7th inning the game would end this way.
Sean Alp led the way at the plate for the Red Sox going 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Matt Fusco was also 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two RBIs while MIchael Ong was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a pair of RBIs. Aaron Nash was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI while Liam Buckley was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Brandon Job rounded out the Milton offense with three walks and a run scored. Aiden Cowper was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBIs to pace the Brampton offense.
On the hill, Tyler MacKillop drew the start for Milton going four innings allowing five runs (all earned) on six hits. He walked five and struck out one. Eric Beharri tossed the other three innings allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits. He walked none and struck out three to preserve the tie.
In game two of the double dip, the teamsd would trade runs in the first inning and Milton would add a second run in the bottom of the 2nd for an early 2-1 lead. After a scoreless 3rd frame, Brampton would tie the game 2-2 in the top of the 4th inning but it would be short lived as the Red Sox piled on seven runs in the home half for a 9-2 lead. Brampton would answer back with a pair in the 5th inning to cut the lead to 9-4 but Milton would get those back plus another one to take a 12-4 lead. Brampton would get one late making the final score 12-5 Milton.
Sean Alp once again led the offiense going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs and three RBIs. Matt Fusco was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Michael Ong was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Mike McKillop and Eric Beharri were both 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Aaron Nash was 2-for-3 with a hone run, an HBP, a run scored and three RBIs.
Liam Buckley was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Ilias Sabehzada rounded out the Milton offense with three walks and a run scored. Four Brampton hitters had a hit a piece with Dawson Fascia hitting a triple Sam Lebel and Alex Fascia each hitting doubles.
Dylan Clark started and went five innings allwoing four runs (one earned) on three hits to collect the win. He hit one batter, walked five and struck out three. Joe Giansante allowed one run (earned) in the 6th inning on a pair of walks and no hits. Rhys Tapper finished up throwing a clean 7th inning allowing a hit and getting one strikeout. Matt Stoddart started for the Royals a took the loss allowing nine runs (four earned) on 11 hits iover his four innings of work.
