COBA Major Week IV Recap feat Erindale Cardinals

The Erindale Cardinals had a good Week IV in COBA Major League action as they 1-2 in three league games. On Monday, they hosted the league leading Etobicoke Rangers at Erindale Cardinal Field in Mississauga. The Rangers got off to an early start in this one as they put up six runs in the top of the 1st inning for an early 6-0 lead. The Cards chipped away though scoring two in the 1st inning and two more in the 2nd inning to cut the lead to 6-4. 

 

Etobicoke would answer back though scoring three runs in the 3rd inning to re-build their lead to 9-4. Erindale would get one back in the home half but the Rangers would tack on five more runs and lead 14-5 after four innings. Cardinals would get a run in each of the next two innings but Etobicoke would answer, once again, with four runs in the 6th inning. After a scoreless 7th inning Etobicoke would take this game by a score of 18-7. 

 

Pip Murray-Smith led the Erindale offence going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs and a pair of RBIs. Big Chris Novia was 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, a run and an RBI while rookie David Walling was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jay Woodford was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI while Ryan Kula was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Aneil Birsa was 1-for-1 with a walk, a run and an RBI while Eric Alcaraz rounded out the offence going 1-for-2 with a run. 

 

The Throwers were an issue for the Cardinals all night long. Alex was 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, a run and four RBIs while brother Eric had a monster night going 4-for-5 with a HR, two doubles, three runs and three RBI. Dan Estey took the loss for Erindale going four innings allowing 14 runs (four earned) on 10 hits. He walked two and strucl out four. Declan Sweeney and Mark Taplin also saw time on the hill for the Cards. Mike Asta, the second of three Etobicoke hurlers, got the win thorwing 3 1/3 innings allowing a run on a pair of hits and seven strikeouts.

 

Erindale needed to wipe that effort quickly as they were back in action the next night as they made the trip to the Flower City to take on the Brampton Royals at the Termaoto Yellow Field. Cards got out of the gate early in this one as they put up a two psot in the 1st inning. The Royals got one back in the bottom half of the inning. Erindale would regain that two run lead in the 2nd inning scoring another run for a 3-1 lead. 

 

After a scoreless 3rd inning, Erindale would tack on two more runs in the 4th inning to grow their lead to 5-1. Brampton would get one back in the home half of the inning to cut the lead to 5-2 but the Cards would add on two runs in the 5th inning and another in the 6th inning for an 8-2 lead. This would end up being the final score as the game was halted after seven innings due to some banks of lights going out at the park. 

 

Eric Alcaraz led the Erindale charge at the dish going 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of runs and two RBIs. Michael Hogg was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Will Yurkiv was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Evan Landry was 1-for-3 with a run and stolen base while Matt Lamoureaux was 1-for-1 with an RBI. 

 

Johnny Dewolfe was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs while fellow veteran Andrew Mullin was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Ryan Kula and Pip Murray-Smith rounded out the Erindale offence each scoring a run. Aidan Cowper had a pair of hits going 2-for-3 while big Joe Ferreira was 1-for-4 with an RBI. 

 

Adan Forsey started the game for Erindale on the hill. He went four innings allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits. He walked one batter while striking out none. Mullin came in in relief and collected the win. He wents a solid three innings allowing no runs on just one hit. He had one walk and struck out three. Cameron Hibbs started and took the loss for Brampton throwing four innings allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits. He walked one and struck out one. 

 

The Cardinals then had a few days off before traveling to Campbellville to take on the Milton Red Sox in a matinee game on Saturday afternoon. Milton got going in a hurry in this one as they put up five runs in the 1st inning for an early 5-0 lead. The Cards would get three of those back in the 3rd inning to cut the Milton Lead to 5-3. The Red Sox would add onw in the home half of the 3rd and another in the 4th inning for a 7-3 lead.

 

Erindale would put up single runs in the 5th and 6th innings to cut the Milton lead back to two runs at 7-5. The Red Sox would blow it open again in the home half of the 6th scoring four runs for an 11-5 lead. Erindale would manage to get one more run in the 8th inning but nothing more as Milton took this game by a score of 11-6. 

 

Chris Novia was the top hitter for Erindale going 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and an RBI. Andrew Mullin was 2-for-4 with an HBP, a run and two RBIs while Jon Amendola was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Eric Alcaraz was 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs while Pip Murray-Smith 1-for-4 with two walks, two runs and an RBI.

 

Michael Hogg was 1-for-5 while Aneil Birsa rounded out the offence going 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and a run. Sean Alp was the big bat for the Milton club going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, three runs and two RBIs. Liam Buckley 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.

 

Easton Kirkpatrick took the loss for Erindale going two innings allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits. He walked two and struck out three. Tyler MacKillop was brilliant for the Red Sox in picking up the win. He went seven innings allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits. He walked three batters and struck out nine.
