COBA Major Week VI Recap feat Burlington Brants

The Burlington Brants had a great week in COBA Major Baseball League action as they were a perfect 3-for-3 in the win column as they ran their record to 5-4 on the young season.

 

The Brants kicked off their week at home as they hosted the Milton Red Sox at Nelson Park. Burington struck first in this one as they plated a pair of runs in th home half of the secind inning to take a 2-0 lead. The score would stay this way until the 4th inning when Burlington tacked on another four runs for a 6-0 lead.

 

Milton would get on the board in the next frame as they got a run but the Brants got that back and one more as they took an 8-1 lead into the 7th inning. The Red Sox would get three runs in that inning to cut the lead to 8-4 but Burlington would grab twomore runs in the bottom of the 8th inning and hold off Milton in the 9th inning to take this game by a final score of 10-4.

 

COBA Major Zero K Bats Player of the Week Michael Westlake led the 12-hit attack fo rthe Brants going 2-for-2 with four walks, two runs, an RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Veteran Darryl Pierce was 2-for-3 with two walks, a pair of runs ansd a stolen base while Bill Reaume was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI. Cole Lewis was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, a run and a pair of RBIs while Dylan Russell was also 1-for-2 with an RBI

 

Max Von Gemmigen was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base while Corrie Morrison was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. Slugger Cam Ryerson was 1-for-5 on the night while Anthony Rizquez rounded out the Brants offense with an RBI. Sean Alp led the Milton offense going 3-for-5 with a HR, a double, two runs and two RBIs.

 

Veteran righty Trevor Woodjetts drew the start on the hill for Burlington and got the win going six innings allowing one run (earned) on five hits. He hit on batter, walked one and struck out seven. Dylan Sanford threw a 1/3 of an inning allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out one. 

 

Luke Connor followed him to the mound throwing the last 2 2/3 innings allowing no runs and no hits. He walked one and struck out six Red Sox batters. Dylan Clark started for Milton and took the loss going 3 2/3 innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits. He walked five batters and struck out two. 

 

On Saturday, the Brants made their way to Milton for a re-match with the Red Sox. They would play a double header on this day with Milton and would take both ends of the twinbill. 

 

This one started off as a tight affair as both pitchers held their opponent scoreless through the first three innings. Each team would score a pair of runs in the 4th inning before Burlington broke it open in the 5th inning scoring four runs for a 6-2 lead. Theyu would add one more in the 7th inning and take thisgame by a score of 7-2

 

Cam Ryerson would lead the way for the Brants in this one going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Tim Sogan was 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI while Michael Westlake was 1-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases. Cole Lewis was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI while Corrie Morrison was also 1-for-3 with a double, an HBP and a run. 

 

Veteran Brock Marshall was 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI while Max Von Gemmigen was also 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Darryl Pierce was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run, an RBI and a stolen base while Kyle Arbuthnott had an RBI to round out the Burlington offense. Liam Butchereit was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Liam Buckley was 1-for-3 with an RBI to account for the Milton offense. 

 

Franco Pace started on the hill for the Brants. He went 4 1/3 innings allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits. He hit one batter, walked two and struck out four in grabbing a no decision. Jordan Rienzo followed hin to the mound grabbing the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on two hits while striking out two. Tyler Mackillop started for Milton and took the loss going 5 2/3 inning allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits

 

In the back half of the twinbill, the Brants left no doubt in this one as they scored three runs on the 1st inning for an early 3-0 lead. They would add three more runs in the 5th inning and five runs in the 6th inning. Milton could never really get anything going offensively in thos one as Burlington won 11-0 in six innings. 

 

Tim Sogan led the way offensively for the Brants going 2-for-4 with two runs and a pair of RBIs. Max Von Gemmigen was 2-for-3 with a walk, a pair of runs and an RBI while Michael Westlake was 1-for-2 with a walk, an HBP, two rund and a stolen base while Brock Marshall was 1-for-3 with a walk and a pair of RBIs

 

Corrie Morrison was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and three runs while Cole Lewis was 1-for-4 with a run. Darryl Pierce wrapped up the Brants offense going 1-for-4 with four RBIs. Brandon Job was 1-for-2 with an HBP and Matt Fusco was 1-for-2 with a walk to led the offense for Milton. 

 

Cam Ryerson cruised to the victory of the mound for Burlington as he went five innings allowing no runs on just three hits. He hit a batter, walked two and struck out five for the win. Eric Krychowski threw the final frame allowing no runs on a hit and a strikeout. Ryan Lieng took the loss for Milton going four innings allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits.
