The Milton Red Sox had a pair of COBA Major Baseball League contests this past week. They ended up with a split in those games to run their overall record to 6-8-1 on the season.
On Wednesday, the Red Sox played host to the Erindale Cardinals at the Milton Sports Complex. The Cards opened the scoring in this one as they plated a run in the top of the 1st frame. The Red Sox would knot this game up in the home half of the 4th inning and then take the lead 2-1 pushing another run across in the 6th inning.
Erindale, not phased, managed to get another run in the 8th inning to tie this game up again 2-2. In extras, the Cardinals were able to push across four runs in the 10th inning and a 6-2 lead. Milton would answer back with four of their own in the home half to tie the game again 6-6. In the 11th, Milton got a pair of runners on and scored the winning run on a passed ball for a 7-6 win.
COBA Major Player of the Week Matt Fusco led Milton at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Brandon Job was 2-for-4 with a pair of walks, a run and an RBI while Nick Feren was 2-for-5 with a double, an HBP and a pair of runs. Eric Beharri was 2-for-6 with a pair of singles while Illyas Sahebzada was 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
Liam Buckley was 1-for-4 with a walk, an HBP and two stolen bases while Liam Butchereit was 1-for-6 with a run and a stolen base. Sean Alp, with an RBI sac fly, and Tyler MacKillop, with a walk and a run, rounded out the Milton offense. Chris Novia was 2-for-3 with a double, three walks and an RBI while Victor Ceballos 2-for-5 with two doubles, a pair of runs and an RBI to lead Erindale at the plate.
Dylan Clark drew the start for Milton on the hill. He went six innings allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits. He walked five batters while striking out one. Kyle Clark followed him to the mound for an inning allowing no runs and no hits while walking two and striking out one.
Eric Beharri was next in and earned the win tossing the last four innings of the game. He gave up five runs (all earned) on seven hits. He walked two and struckout one Erindale batter. Mark Taplin, throwing in relief of starter Adam Forsey, took the loss going 4 2/3 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits.
Milton hit the road on Friday as they made the short jaunt to Oakville Park to take on division rivals the Oakville A's . The Red Sox gpt the bats rolling early in this one as they pushed across five runs in the 1st inning. Oakville would get one back in the home half to make it 5-1 but Milton got that back right away in the 2nd inning to restore their 5-run lead.
The Red Sox would add another run in the 4th frame to extend their lead to 7-1. After three scoreless innings, Oakville mounted a rally in the 8th inning and were able to plate seven runs to take an 8-7 lead. They would hold off the Milton attack in the 9th inning and take this game by the same 8-7 score.
Veteran Kevin Greer led the way for the Red Sox going 4-for-5 at the dish with a run and three RBIs. Brandon Jon was 1-for-5 with a run and two RBIs while Aaron Nash was 1-for-3 with a home run, a pair of walks, a run, two RBIs and a stolen base. Matt Fusco was 1-for-4 with a walk while Sean Alp was 1-for-5 with a double, an HBP and two runs.
Liam Butchereit was 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and a stolen base while Michael Ong was 1-for-4 with a walk. Nicholas Feren and Liam Buckley were both 1-for-5 to rund out the Milton offense. Steve Shum and Ryan Freemantle both had home runs for Oakville to help lead their offense.
Chris Cloes drew the start for the Red Sox and looked sharp as he went a strong seven innings allowing one run (unearned) on just three hits. He walked one while striking out five in getting a no decision. Rhys Tapper followed him to the mound taking the loss. He threw a 1/3 of an inning allowing six runs (all earned) on two hits while walking four. Sean Kretz threw the last 2/3 on an inning allowing an earned run on two hits. Steve Shum got the win for Oakville.
