In a fast-paced 2nd game of a Saturday doubleheader, each team traded commanding pitching until the roof fell in on the Sox, evening their season record at 3-3.
The teams traded zeros for 4 innings, until Erindale got on the board first in their half of the 5th inning on a fielder's choice off eventual losing pitcher, Josh Maxwell. From there, the Cardinals executed patience and timely hitting from their lineup to blow the game open, scoring an additional four runs in the 6th, and three more in the 7th to cruise to an 8-1 win. It was Erindale's first victory of the season, after opening up 0-4 to begin the year.
Sox' mainstay, Chris Cloes began the day on the mound for Milton, getiing through 2 innings of work, surrendering 2 hits, zero runs, striking out one, while walking two batters. Relievers, Adrian Cookson, and Kyle Clark breezed through a scoreless inning each of relief needing only 19 pitches combined to keep the game scoreless.
Outfielder, Ben Singh went 1 for 3 in his season and team debut, and potted the lone RBI on the day for the Sox. Third baseman, Jeremy Kim, Singh, and designated hitter, Medrik Dube each collected one hit apiece for the home side.
Cardinals' leadoff hitter, Pip Murray-Smith again paced Erindale's offence with three hits, giving him 6 on the day. Super-vet, Andrew Mullin was masterful on the mound for the Cards. The big lefty kept Milton's bats at bay for 5 innings, yeilding to two relievers to close out the windy day of baseball.
The Sox continue their early season home-heavy schedule with a mid-week tilt vs. reigning COBA League Champions, Etobicoke Rangers this Wednesday, 7:30 pm at Milton Community Park.
