Jakob Siracusa collected three hits, including a mammoth solo home run into the night sky in right fiield, as the Milton Red Sox clipped the Oakville A's 9-8. The Milton catcher also added two singles to his five trips to the plate.
The Sox got on the board early in the 1st inning after Owen Dobosh scored on a sacrifice fly, and Siracusa's RBI single to put Milton up 2-0. The Sox would cash two more runs in the 2nd when Oakville committed a costly error which would have ended the Milton threat. The offence kept rolling in the 3rd inning getting four runs on four hits, culminating with Siracusa's solo shot, and Chris Bloom's two-run single to push the lead to 8-2.
Despite being down by 6 in the third inning, Oakville clawed back on the Milton advantage with a run in the 4th, and another in the 6th inning to cut the lead to 8-4.
Starter Dylan Clark went 5 innings for Milton, giving up 8 hits and three runs - giving way to Nate Hamel in the 6th, who gave the Sox two innings of two-hit ball and preserving the 8-4 lead. Ryan Carey came on in relief for the 7th and worked himself in to and out of a jam, escaping with a 3-run lead heading to the 9th inning. Reliever Oliver Reyes; the recipient of some poorly-timed Milton defensive miscues which lead to the A's creeping right back into the game - eventually having the tying run on 2nd base, entered to close out the game. Veteran Rhys Tapper was summoned from the bullpen and managed to thwart the Oakville surge and get the Sox the win.
Milton tallied 11 hits for the game; led by Bloom and Siracusa, who had three apiece. Liam Buckley stole two bases, and the Sox turned one sparkling double play early to end a potential Oakville rally.
With the win, the Sox crept over the .500 mark again to sit at 5-4 on the COBA season. The two teams will go at it again Saturday during Diamond Dedication Day, where long-time Red Sox General Manager and steward, GlennTurner will have the Sox' current home field named after him. Ceremony slated for 1:30 pm with the game to follow immediately afterwards.
