Chris Bloom collected three hits, and Josh Maxwell drove in 3 runs as the Milton Red Sox downed the Brampton Royals 8-4 on Thursday night down in B-town.
The Sox got on the board in the top of the first after Maxwell singled down the left field line, plating two; Adrian Cookson grounded out to push another run across, and first baseman Medrik Dube capped the inning with an opposite field single to right field, giving the Sox an early 4-0 advantage. DH Jakob SIracusa increased the Milton lead to 5-0 in the 2nd inning, pulling the ball into right field to score another. The Royals would claw back to get themselves to 5-2, and then 6-4 in the 7th inning, but the Sox again showed their resilency with Maxwell adding a clutch RBI single in the 8th inning, and Brayden Krolikowski's RBI knock in the 9th to end any talk of a comeback.
Nathan Hamel started for the Sox, going 7 innings, allowing 9 hits, 4 runs (4 ER), striking out two, with zero walks. Hamel pushed his win total to 3 on the season, and was masterful through his outing mixing his pitches and getting himself out of potential Brampton rallies when the score was close. Reliever Kyle Clark came on for the 8th & 9th innings, allowing two hits, and striking out 4.
The Red Sox punched out 13 hits for the game, with Bloom nabbing 3, and catcher Ilias Sahebzada going 2 for 3 while getting on base four times on the night.
The Red Sox are now 7-4 on the season and will travel to Etobicoke to battle the league-leading Rangers on Monday, June 23. Game time 7:30 pm at Connorvale Park.
