Sox Sweep Weekend With A's on GTF Day!
6/14/2025by Steven Victor Tallarico

A glorious day for baseball ended as it began and with a Red Sox win to sweep the Friday evening/Satur-day weekend with Oakville.

On a day like no other - Diamond Dedication Day - to honour the Sox' own Glenn Turner, Milton provided the large crowd with joy and sent the home team 2 games over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Oakville jumped out to an early 2-0, 1st inning lead as 2 of the first 3 batters reached base off starter Chris Cloes, before the veteran righty induced a groundout and an inning-ending strikeout to limit the early damage. That's all the offence the A's would muster for the remainder of the day.

The Milton bats awoke in the home half of the 2nd inning as the Sox scored six times - on one hit - thanks to some control issues from the Oakville starter and back-to-back hit batsmen. Matt Fusco got the Sox in the plus column with a hard RBI groundout, followed by Ben Singh's RBI single and consecutive bases loaded walks to Ben Austin, Chris Bloom, and Liam Buckley to erase the Oakville advantage.

The Sox padded their lead in the 4th inning by way of four runs on six consecuitve singles by Josh Maxwell, Jakob Siracusa, Eric Beharri, Oliver Reyes, Fusco, and SIngh. Austin would cap the scoring in the inning with a long sacrifice fly to put Milton up 10-2. It was Maxwell again, striking in the 5th with an RBI double, followed in the 6th by a Ben Bishop single through the infield to round out the day's scoring.

Offensively, Maxwell went 2  for 3  with a double, 2 RBI and a sacrifice fly. Fusco was also 2 for 3 and cashed in 2 RBI, and Singh broke out with a 3 for 4 day at the plate, pounding a double to the fence and chipping in with an RBI of his own.

On the mound, Cloes would roll through 6 innings of 5 hit baseball - striking out 6 and walking none for his first win of the season. Adrian Cookson mopped up in the 7th, allowing no hits, and striking out 2.

Milton will try and extend their win streak to 3 when they travel to Brampton this coming Thursday, June 19. Game time 7:30 pm at David Dash Memorial Field.
