Etobicoke scored 6 times in the sixth inning on Wednesday night, which iced the wet night for the Red Sox. Final: Etobicoke 11, Milton 3.
The Rangers got on the board in the 2nd inning, after consecutive RBI hits put Etobicoke up 2-0. The Sox would halve the lead in their 2nd frame, after loading the bases on 3 consecutive walks to open the inning - Christian D'Cruz would trot home with the first Milton run on a wild pitch. Milton would tie the score one inning later, when D'Cruz would single home Liam Buckley to knot the game at 2-2. Then, like many recent events - the Milton offence would go quietly into the night.
Etobicoke got to Sox starter, Nathan Hamel in the 4th with 3 runs (all unearned) when the Milton defence coughed up the only two msicues by either team, lending to the 5-2 Rangers lead. From there, relievers Rhys Tapper, and Nick Edwards were rudely greeted as Etobicoke's offence mashed the pedal in the 6th inning and before the rains would end the game prematurely.
Hamel held Milton close in his 5 innings of work, scattering 7 hits, 5 runs (2 ER), while striking out 1, and walking a pair. Offensively; Chris Smorenburg, Josh Maxwell, Buckley, Jakob Siracusa and D'Cruz logged the 5 hits for the Red Sox, while D'Cruz and Buckley chipped in the team's only 2 RBI.
It was the second consecutive loss for the Red Sox to open the season's 2nd half, dropping them to 8-7 on the season with a return date with Etobicoke looming on Friday night at Ninth Line Sports Park, Mississauga. Game time 7:30 pm.
