Sox Skid To 3 After Rangers' Comeback
7/11/2025by William Bruce Bailey

In a game Milton led by 4 early on, turned ugly late as Etobicoke scored 8 unanswered runs Friday night to beat the Sox 10-6 and extend the mid-season losing streak to 3 games.

The Red Sox opened the scoring in the first inning, courtesy of back-to-back doubles by leadoff hitter Chris Bloom and shortstop Christian D'Cruz. Milton added two more runs in the 2nd inning when D'Cruz would draw a bases-loaded walk, and Liam Butchereit hit a sacrifice fly to up the Milton lead to 3-0.

After Etobicoke scored a pair in their half of the 2nd, the Sox continued to take advantage of some rare control issues from the Rangers' starting pitcher. Josh Maxwell singled to bring home Chris Smorenburg who had walked to leadoff the 3rd inning, upping the lead to 4-2. Bloom would then cash hit-by-pitch recipient Aaron Nash via a sacrifice fly, and Eric Beharri would trot home after a passed ball to conclude the Sox scoring on the inning, giving the Red Sox a comfortable 6-2 lead.

Then, like many of their recent games, the Milton offence would be silenced for the remainder of the night.

Sox starter Dylan Clark laboured through 3 innings, allowing 3 runs (3 ER) on 4 hits, striking out two and walking an unusually high 6 batters. Rookie, Brayden Krolikowski came on and pitched 3 innings of relief. His night was equally rough as he allowed 4 runs (4 ER) on 3 hits, striking out 1 and allowing 9 walks, in taking the loss. Kyle Clark capped the humid night with one inning of his own, allowing 3 runs (3 ER), 3 hits, striking out 1 and walking 3. Milton pitching allowed 10 hits and issued 18 free passes for the game.

The Sox offence tallied 10 hits of their own, while walking a season-high 9 times. The defence turned one double play and neiher team committed an error.

Milton's record now falls back to .500 as the team sits at 8-8. The Sox will try and get back into the win column as they travel to Erindale on Monday, July 14 to face their friendly foes. Game time 7:30 pm at Ninth Line Sports Park.
